rumen Posted October 17, 2014 Share Posted October 17, 2014 Hi All, I wonder if anyone has encountered something like this. I have small script which I compile into an EXE. After adding an optional parameter to one of my functions, the script still passes syntax check with no errors or warnings and the EXE compiles just fine. When I run it, however, it produces an error regarding an undeclared variable. The problem is that it is sending me to the wrong line: 94. Tha line contains a function definition in its most basic form: Func FUNCTIONNAME () I have a few more of these, so clearly that is not where the error is comming from. I figured out that blank and commented out lines do not count as lines. I tried substracting the number of blank/commented out lines from 94, but this ended up in another part of the script that did not make sense as the source of the problem. I finally decided to make a copy of the script and remove all lines that to not have code. Here comes the interesting part! My script shrinked down to less than 80 lines, but the error message still claims that the undeclared variable is on line 94. So here is the milion dollar question: Why is this happening and how can I find the spot where the problem actually is? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated! Though your error is valid as you're using a variable that isn't declared, so please check your code. I was actually able to figure it out - I simply executed the script (instead of compiling it) and it gave me the correct line number where the problem is. This is why you should re-read my post, as the merged script represents what AutoIt sees, hence the numbers will likely match. BrewManNH Posted October 17, 2014 Share Posted October 17, 2014 It's also a good idea to run your script prior to compiling it to make sure it actually runs correctly. It also makes troubleshooting the errors in it a lot easier as well. AutoIt scripts do not need to be compiled before you can run them, compiling is a last-step process when you think everything is working correctly after testing it. This isn't like C/C++ where you can't test it without compiling it to an exe. If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise.
