Isaak
Hi guys, i've created an endless running script (intended) that modify the "new" clipboard with a string if the "old" clipboard contains a special string. The script should always run if my windows is running (therefore the while true infinite loop). Here it is: While True Exchange() WEnd Func Exchange() $clipboard = ClipGet() If ( StringLen($clipboard) >= 15 And StringLen($clipboard) <= 30 ) And ( StringLeft($clipboard, 4) = "1989" Or StringLeft($clipboard, 4) = "1990" ) Then ClipPut("Surprise, Surprise :)") Endif EndFunc But if I run the compiled exe, the CPU usage is extremly high (~50%) compared with other running big applications. How can I reduce the cpu footprint without change the functionality of my script? Maybe Sleep()? I'm a starter with autoit, so please don't be too hard with me
jguinch
Add a sleep in your main loop : While True Exchange() Sleep(10) WEnd Spoiler Network configuration UDF, _DirGetSizeByExtension, _UninstallList Firefox ConfigurationArray multi-dimensions, Printer Management UDF
Isaak
But how much delay in sleep() is enough to ensure that every STRG+C in clipboard is checked with my script? sleep(1) wouldn't make sense (1 millisecond -> no cpu effect) and with sleep(1000) or sleep(5000) there would be a better cpu usage but the risk, that clipput() don't work immediately. Moderators JLogan3o13 Posted October 29, 2014 Moderators Share Posted October 29, 2014 (edited) So try 100 ms. as suggested, and bump up by another 100 until you're comfortable. Moderators Melba23 Posted October 29, 2014 Moderators Share Posted October 29, 2014 Isaak, Sleep(1) wouldn't make sense (1 millisecond -> no cpu effect)As it explains in the Help file: Due to internal implementation, the sleep time completion is checked every 10 millisseconds so the precision cannot be less than 10M23.
