meows
The code in the help file for FileWriteToLine is Example Copy to clipboard #include <File.au3> ; Example: Write to line 3 of c:\temp\test.txt REPLACING line 3 _FileWriteToLine("c:\temp\test.txt", 3, "my replacement for line 3", 1) ; Example: Write to line 3 of c:\temp\test.txt NOT REPLACING line 3 _FileWriteToLine("c:\temp\test.txt", 3, "my insertion", 0) lt was not until I read the return value a couple times did I catch the error 2 value.. File does not exist. That is probably true but it will not write anything to the test.txt file Return Value Success: 1. Failure: 0 and sets the @error flag to non-zero. @error: 1 - File has fewer lines than $iLine 2 - File does not exist 3 - Error when opening file 4 - $iLine is invalid 5 - $iOverWrite is invalid 6 - $sText is invalid #include <File.au3> #include <MsgBoxConstants.au3> If Not _FileCreate(@ScriptDir & "/test.txt") Then MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "Error", " Error Creating test txt. error:" & @error) ; Example: Write to line 3 of c:\temp\test.txt REPLACING line 3 _FileWriteToLine(@ScriptDir & "/test.txt", 1, "my replacement for line 1", 1) _FileWriteToLine(@ScriptDir & "/test.txt", 2, "my replacement for line 2", 1) _FileWriteToLine(@ScriptDir & "/test.txt", 3, "my replacement for line 3", 1) _FileWriteToLine(@ScriptDir & "/test.txt", 4, "my replacement for line 4", 1) ; Example: Write to line 3 of c:\temp\test.txt NOT REPLACING line 3 _FileWriteToLine(@ScriptDir & "/test.txt", 3, "my insertion", 0) ;(@ScriptDir & "/test.txt") EndIf I wanted to get away from using a ini or csv file.. No big deal just thought you should know Note that the function will not work if there is no line there already. Your script will create the file if it doesn't exist. So that means the file is empty. There are no lines so it sets @error to 1 for the first line you try to write and so forth. _FileWriteToFile seems to imply there is a line there already. It's not working the way you might think it should. You might need to use FileWriteLine. You can try this. If Not _FileCreate(@ScriptDir & "\test.txt") Then MsgBox(48, "Error", " Error Creating test txt. error:" & @error) FileWriteLine(@ScriptDir & "\test.txt", "my replacement for line 1") FileWriteLine(@ScriptDir & "\test.txt", "my replacement for line 2") FileWriteLine(@ScriptDir & "\test.txt", "my replacement for line 3") EndIf FYI I would use backslashes in paths. Just standard for windows. Edited December 9, 2014 by EndFunc EndFuncAutoIt is the shiznit. I love it.

meows
Did you try AutoIt v3.3.12.0 ? or even v3.3.10.2 ? No not this time. I am under a crunch at the moment,, need this project out the door before Christmas. Note that the function will not work if there is no line there already. Your script will create the file if it doesn't exist. So that means the file is empty. There are no lines so it sets @error to 1 for the first line you try to write and so forth. _FileWriteToFile seems to imply there is a line there already. Just standard for windows. Thank you, I was really tired and did not notice I was switching boxes and I got everything back to front. I am going to try FileWriteLine OK I tried it with modification #include <FileConstants.au3> #include <MsgBoxConstants.au3> Example() Func Example() Local Const $sFilePath = @ScriptDir & "\test.txt" FileWriteLine(@ScriptDir & "\test.txt", "my replacement for line 1") FileWriteLine(@ScriptDir & "\test.txt", "my replacement for line 2") FileWriteLine(@ScriptDir & "\test.txt", "my replacement for line 3") ;EndIf EndFunc ;==>FileCreate And test.txt is now the proud owner of 3 new lines my replacement for line 1 my replacement for line 2 my replacement for line 3 Thank you and Thank you.. I promise I shall learn to read some day;
