_GUICtrlListView_GetItemText

Recommended Posts

$index = _GUICtrlListView_GetSelectedIndices ($hlist, false)
MsgBox (0, $Index, _GUICtrlListView_GetItemText ($hlist,$index))

I am sorry for not posting something a bit more helpful.  But basically, then index number is returned to $index, because I can see it in the title of the msgbox.  But the msgbox text returns blank.  However, if I change the $index in line2 to an acual integer, it works.  Is this a bug?

Try this:

MsgBox(0, $Index, _GUICtrlListView_GetItemText($hlist, $index, 0)) ;<<<< 0 is to get the item's text

Alright, give this a try as well:

MsgBox(0, $Index, _GUICtrlListView_GetItemTextString($hlist, $index))

You can even take the getselectedindices function out using it like this:

MsgBox(0, $Index, _GUICtrlListView_GetItemTextString($hlist, -1)) ;<<<<< the -1 will get the selected string

EDIT: Melba is correct, you'll need to convert the $Index to a number, as it is just a string still. Overlooked this parameter of GetSelectedIndices description:

False - Returns pipe "|" delimited string

P.S. Thank you Melba. ^_^

wisem2540,

Convert the return from _GUICtrlListView_GetSelectedIndices into number format:

$index = _GUICtrlListView_GetSelectedIndices ($hlist, False)
MsgBox (0, $Index, _GUICtrlListView_GetItemText ($hlist, Number($index)))
.

MikahS,

That parameter is set to 0 by default:

_GUICtrlListView_GetItemText

Retrieves the text of an item or subitem

#include <GuiListView.au3>
_GUICtrlListView_GetItemText ( $hWnd, $iIndex [, $iSubItem = 0] )

Mikah - your second solution did work, but because of the columns in my list box, some additional coding would have been required.

M23 - Your solution was spot on.  Perhaps there should be a change request to default that return to an integer?

Either way, it solved my issue.  Thanks!

If you have multiple selections then the return is a "|" delimited string, so it cannot default to an integer. ;)

You'd be better off not using the string returned, because you'll never know how many items are selected in the listview, and your code isn't dealing with that. Use the array, and then loop through it to make sure you're dealing with one selected item, or multiple.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.
