HowTo - _FileListToArray + multiple wildcards

I checked all helpfile usually there is reference to:

But I do not find any description how to use "multiple wildcards".

I was trying with out success.

Anybody can help ?

Both FileListToArray & _FileListToArray pass the filter directly to Windows, so you can have only the single filter. _FileListToArrayRec scans all items and uses a Regex to pick out those that match - hence you can have several filters, but with a corresponding execution time penalty.

Why does arrayconcatenate use Const byref?  

I was clarifying to myself the 'execution time penalty' , so in exploring running two separate FLTA commands and concatenating the arrays -vs- a single FLTARec noticed this feature of _arrayconcatenate which seems unnecessary to the untrained eye.  Is it a speed thing?

The function uses ByRef to avoid making copies of the arrays within the function and so wasting memory. The source is also made Const to prevent any inadvertent changes being made to it within the function.

The default for the $iStart parameter is preset to 0 in the case where the parameter is not defined - and the first line checks for the Default keyword and set the parameter to the default value if required. Hence the 3 lines which follow are functionally identical:

_ArrayConcatenate($aArrayTarget, $aArraySource, 0)        ; Defined as 0
_ArrayConcatenate($aArrayTarget, $aArraySource, Default)  ; Defined as default and changed to 0 in the function

Yes ty, space/speed/validation were my initial guesses, im glad its only one of them.  Now for a super dumb question regarding the copy behavior:

Is there a way of constructing a func that allows functions to be passed, whilst still avoiding making copies?

 

*btw _FileListToArrayRec is noticeably faster than my current concatenation efforts for large directories.

If you mean "allows variables to be passed, whilst still avoiding making copies" then that is exactly what ByRef does - if not then I am afraid I do not understand the question. >

in my post, I simply took the byref out and I can pass _FileListToArray as a parameter to _ArrayConcatenate.  With the byref in you are unable to do that.   I did some other clean up for the returned array's sake, but taking the byrefs out fixes the errors.  

So is there a solution that allows me to pass _FileListToArray as a parameter for _ArrayConcatenate, that would still ensure a copy of the returned array is not being made by the function, or is that even a concern when doing it that way?

I see what you mean now. I am afraid I cannot answer that question - you would need someone with access to the AutoIt source code. But personally I have never really liked nesting functions to the level you are trying in your code above - too much chance for something to go wrong. And given the overall "speed" ( ) of AutoIt, I am not sure that you gain that much either.

All very true.  Purely academic, I have zero clue what is actually going on when i hit F5.  I will try to find a nice way of describing this and start another thread, thanks for entertaining my wandering.
