StringInStr ... any rules on special characters?

I've used StringInStr on countless occasions.  But recently I've tried using it to locate where I've used a particular function in my library of scripts ... for example the function _SetBitmap().

Here are examples of the results I get when I search for variations of the string:

"SetBitmap" ... finds all occurrences

"SetBitmap(" ... finds all occurrences

"_SetBitmap" ... does not find any occurrences

Are there rules for using non-alpha characters?

Instead of using the actual special characters have you tried your string with the Chr function with the ASCII Characters?

Like so:

Chr(95) & "SetBitmap" & Chr(40) & Chr(41)

This seems to work fine as it finds it on line 4, so can you post a reproducer?:

I guess that it works even if you say it doesn't:

Thanks to each of you for looking at this.

What got me started doubting was when I got questionable results when searching for:

_Singleton(“MessageScript”, 0)

I kept simplifying the search string and comparing results ... but I may have tripped on my own shirttail. 

 

I'll repeat my tests and post the results tomorrow.

 

For now, the consensus is "no restrictions on searched-for characters" + operator error.
