SMTP Gmail using the Gmail UDF

Recommended Posts

After a lot of googling I found a UDF for checking gmail new messages. Beautiful! Does exactly what I need. Now I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to mark a message as read or even delete it. Wanting to do it in the background and not have to open gmail and click anything.

Tried doing some googling but was unable to pull up anything. Went through some help pages by gmail for smtp but I couldn't find it. I know the _CheckGmail function pulls information from the page using /feed/atom (like RSS) but I don't even know if what I'm asking is possible.

Why are you trying to automate this? Aren't you afraid of it accidentally deleting or marking as read the wrong messages? If you're going to be using certain keywords or phrases to determine what to delete and/or mark as read, wouldn't the filters in GMail be more reliable?

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I'm pulling and reading the email in the _CheckGmail function so once I've read it there is no point in keeping it. Deleting it is fine, marking it as read is fine, it can be recovered either way.

I'm trying to communicate with my program from the email, sending it "tasks" to do remotely. (Empty recycle bin, open notepad, etc) Once the task has been done I don't want it to show up from the _CheckGmail function. The function only stores unread emails.

If it's not possible my other work around is using the message id associated with the email. I just don't want to have to keep the message id's stored on the computer so the program can determine if the unread email is a new one or one that it's already used.
