Windows 7 freezing problem

What a PITA

I don't know what she did but my GF ended up on some site telling her (literally, it had audio playing reading out the contents of the site) her computer was locked (sort of like one of those fake fbi things)

So we went to task manager and killed the browser so as to not click on anything, then cleaned out an infection in c:\windows\svchost.exe

I couldn't find anything else in the registry or msconfig and everything was fine for a couple days.

This morning, her computer starts freezing almost immediately after windows starts. Tried to boot into safemode with networking, same thing.

Booting into safemode without network support works fine.

So I look at the event logs and see a bunch of "dcom got error 1068 attempting to start the service fdphost..." errors

Ok, so I try uninstalling the video card drivers (since that's the only search result I found that actually tells the person to do anything, all the others just have the person running log files over and over)

Anyways, it freezes up at the end of the uninstall so didn't actually uninstall the drivers. Well I remembered that she had freezing issues a long time ago and that was fixed by uninstalling/reinstalling java

So I went to uninstall java and found that her installer service is buggered up

So I try a system restore, nope that's buggered too.

I pull out the windows disk and go to restore a system image, nope it wants to freeze up a few seconds after the image restore starts.

Uggggggg

Hi kaotkbliss.

I think all the OS related topics are now being dealt with in the Windows Client part of the forum, so you might want to report your topic to be moved there. Many previous OS Chat topics have been relocated there, and a new one here the other day was relocated shortly after being started.

Seems that is now the new Paradigm.

Ahh, I couldn't find my post LOL

I think I've solved the problem though. I removed the HD and copied all the files, then I formatted said HD and reinstalled windows. Now I am restoring the system image from last week (before said virus thingy).
