Optimize windows!

Hello GUYS! My hard disk is damaged, and now i have to use another one , with a lower capacity. It has 20 GB. I've installed Windows 7 but it works slowly, because the performance of the HDD is low.

I'm looking for a method to considerably speed up my operating system, so i could work with in an optimal condition, until i will get a high speed SSD.

Thanks in advance!

Google broken? This brought up 14 million + hits, even just the first of which had great suggestions:

A base Windows 7 install will use 20GB or more. A 20GB HDD simply will not suffice for a regular Windows 7 install. You're either going to have to start ripping out components, yourself, or find a special Windows 7 build that has been stripped.

"Tiny7" comes to mind, but as-if legality wasn't enough of an issue, it's partially broken in various ways. For ex; .NET seems to be pretty hard to get working on it.

You could enable native compression on the entire drive, but that's going to hurt performance, too.

I just checked a fresh Windows 7 Ultimate [X64] install with the only installed software being BlueStacks and it's using 23GB of space.

Hi There,

I recommend to  Download CCleaner as suggested above, and keep it installed and run it regularly.

Run both the Windows cleaner and the registry cleaner on their default settings until you learn what the advanced settings do, and be sure to allow it to back up any registry changes it is going to make before it makes them (it will prompt you to do this by default.)

Why would you suggest to use Linux on a forum dedicated to a piece of software that doesn't work in Linux? Besides, Linux isn't the answer to everything computer related, regardless of what the zealots think. ;)

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I hereby grant any person the right to use any code I post, that I am the original author of, on the autoitscript.com forums, unless I've specifically stated otherwise in the code or the thread post. If you do use my code all I ask, as a courtesy, is to make note of where you got it from.

I think you are talking about the AutoIt v3 sub-forum, this is the IT Administration sub-forum :D

Renderer, I think you're stuck until you get a bigger hard drive. You might experience some limited success in removing components from Windows, but this almost always results in unintended consequences down the road. Good luck with the SSD, that should solve your problems- as long as it's bigger than 20 GB! :P
