Testing if a port is open or close

have you already tried to connect to this port?

do you run a server on the other pc?

If you're at the computer
netstat -a -n | find "LISTENING"
will find all open TCP / UDP ports.

Piping the result through your port number will also work, i.e.

netstat -a -n | find "LISTENING" | find 25
to see all processes bound to port 25 (default SMTP port)
