Administrators Jon Posted September 20, 2015 Administrators Share Posted September 20, 2015 Finally got around to creating a Github account so that I could try and push our Geshi / Google Code Prettify changes back into the main distributions. I used the Github Desktop app to do it and it seemed fairly ok.I'll probably install a Git server on the server here as well for private repos and see if I prefer it to subversion. In Visual Studio 2013 I'm used to having it easy and using the VisualSVN add-in to pretty much do everything. What are the recommended plug-in that work well for Git? I've done some searches but I'm getting a fuzzy picture of what everyone else is using. My setup comprises of the GitHub desktop app for GitHub and regular old commandline elsewhere. You could look at TortoiseGit or I found this, but haven't used it myself. jvanegmond Posted September 22, 2015 Share Posted September 22, 2015 Git offers a lot more workflows than SVN . A lot of these workflows require fairly fine grained control over git. It's not just "update and commit and maybe a little branching if I feel like it" anymore. After working with git for a while, you start to care more about how your code and especially the commits (including messages) make it into master.I know a lot of git developers just use the command line directly. I'm using the GitHub client or Atlassian SourceTree, depending on what repo I'm talking to.
