Unused variables

I have searched the forum, wiki and help files on how to check and get rid of unused variables.  Being new, the terminology is a bit confusing to me.  I am simply seeking to check for and perhaps remove unused variables.  While I think it best never to end up in that situation, I have and do simply because I am new and inexperienced.

So, to keep it simple, will the following at least find unused variables in my script?  Or is there more that I am missing?  I am putting this at the top of the script.

#Region ;**** Directives created by AutoIt3Wrapper_GUI ****
#AutoIt3Wrapper_Outfile=L:\ Board.exe
#AutoIt3Wrapper_Run_Tidy=y
#AutoIt3Wrapper_Run_Au3Stripper=y
#EndRegion ;**** Directives created by AutoIt3Wrapper_GUI ****

Thank you for any helpful response.

You can try with #AutoIt3Wrapper_Au3Check_Parameters with the -w 5 option. (here is a description https://www.autoitscript.com/forum/topic/97052-au3-check-parameters/?do=findComment&comment=697751)

For example :

#AutoIt3Wrapper_Au3Check_Parameters=-q -d -w 1 -w 2 -w 3 -w- 4 -w 5 -w 6 -w- 7

Func a()
    Local $i = 1, Local  $a
    Return $i

EndFunc

Why did you link to an old post? It's kind of outdated due to -w 7 being added some time ago.

OK so I am still reading as much as possible on such topic.

Here is text from wiki:

We scope variables by using the Global, Local and Static keywords when the variables are first declared - look at the examples below. By default, AutoIt scopes any variables declared in the main body of a script (that is not between aFunc and EndFunc pair) as Global and any variables declared within function declarations as Local. But it is a good idea to explicitly declare your variables to make sure that you get what you want. For example, you can declare a variable as Global within a function - although you may get a gentle reminder when you run your script within SciTE that this is not recommended. But there is no point declaring any variables in the main body of a script as Local - they will be Global regardless. If you use the AutoItSetOption("MustDeclareVars", 1) directive you must declare the scope of your variables or you will get error messages

So this is why I have been asking about checking for unused Global (see above bold type).  I want to understand this stuff and hope to get good at it.  It makes sense to me to do a checking for unused variables, although my goal is to get to a level of not creating such animal in the first place - but that takes time & effort.

Anything in a helpful nature would be good guidance for me.

Thanks.

Just use Au3Stripper and set the parameters correctly, and you will be removing them from your script. Use the following in your script.

#AutoIt3Wrapper_Run_Au3Stripper=y
#Au3Stripper_Parameters=/so

You have to download and install Scite4AutoIt3.exe to have that work for you.

Just an FYI: The "#Au3Stripper_Parameters=/so" isn't really needed anymore as that is the default. the /so parameter is still there for backwards compatibility with the Obfuscator parameters.

Forgive me for asking such a beginner question, but does that mean it is automatically included (will find and remove without & report results in console) when scripting in Scite4AutoIt3 ?

Thank you both for your added information and patience with a beginner question.
