Hello,

it seems I got hit by a script breaking change. I did use Version 3.3.8.1 for a long time. Since I needed a new function I upgraded to 3.3.14. Now when I open a file like FileOpen("test.txt", 2) and use FileWriteLine to write the lines, the German characters like "ü" (x'FC') are changed. With 3.3.14 it changes x'FC' to x'C3BC'. So one character is now represented by two characters and the characters behind are shifted. In the documentation I found that 3.3.14 is using UTF8 for Default and in the history there is a script breaking Change listed for this behaviour.

Since I have a lot of programs I am looking for an easy to implement code. I can of course Change any FileOpen and add $FO_ANSI (512) to the open mode, but that would be quiet a lot of work.
Now my question: Is there a way to set $FO_ANSI generally. Maybe when compiling, or ONCE at the top of an .au3 file?

This script-breaking change was necessary to help people producing non-portable data files without being even warned of the possible incompatibilities.

Granted this change creates some inconvenience but much less than the consequences of previous behavior.

Finding all offending source lines shouldn't be that much difficult.

Since I have more than 100 au3 files I was hoping for a simpler solution than finding all offending source lines. And some au3-files might have 10 or more offending lines ...
But it seems there is no general setting or something similar that can help me on this?

You could write a script in AutoIt in about 10 minutes to find all the offending FileWrite functions. And perhaps even alter them for you.

EDIT:

But I suppose it would only take a few minutes longer to fix 100 or so files manually.

In this case I personally I preferred and still prefer to write your own script to carry out all the necessary changes.
In this way forever because I learn something new.
Even if you spend more time than manual modifications, the acquired knowledge is priceless.
The amount of time is inversely proportional to the sum of (knowledge and skills). So with time I need it less and less time.

What was just said, plus the added bonus that if your script-modifying script goes wrong, you'll have to write yet another script to fix what was just broken further. This is another interesting way to get creative

But I have copy, svn etc....

So if something goes wrong than this mean I spent more time == learn more
