Count the leaves in an image, a challenge with prize.

If Odin allows during this holiday season i will rain down functional electronics of great age and abuse upon the community in return for answering super hard questions I am way too dumb to solve (because i hate when someone tells me autoit can't do something, and I still have no script with which to defeat them). 

Prize: I have all sorts of random computing equipment (montors,laptops,tower PCs), one of which you can choose from for the prize.  I've given multiple laptops/monitors (and donated some to a charity, by his username no less as we aint exactly BFFs), those people will assure you i do not jest, nor am I frightened of overseas shipping.   I want to give first dibs for what will no doubt be some GDI+ awesomeness.  

Problem:  I am not skilled enough with colors to get a match rate that is useful.

Goal: For an image of a plant with 10 or fewer leaves, count the leaves on the image.   First script that scores a 45/50 or higher on 50 random images wins.  And they will all be wilderness shots, there cannot be an assumption of any staging other than the hand being the dominant item in the picture, and that all leaves of that dominant item should be counted.   E.G. you could assume that you are looking at only a single hand of poison ivy, fully framed, looking down.  The problem is the gd clover in the forest floor sitting dead center between leaf 2 and 3.

You get bonus stuff if you can glean additional information for classification like serrated/smooth or rounded/pointy tip, at the same 90% rate.

Nope.  and there will be no set 50.  A botanists handbook is what I had present when attempting my last effort of this kind.   I would give the same prize if you can write a script that tells me how many fingers someone is holding up.   You cant assume the color of their skin, or anything about the background (other than it is not crafted to intentionally decieve it is 'natural'),  the only constant is the hand will be the dominant object in the photo and there will be more than one appendage.

That is exactly the kind of naysaying I hope someone takes umbrage with    And eff 'would use it' in its a , you win stuff for 'did use it'.

If not using other compiled code, and not some super ridiculous stuff i dont understand....then yes.  language independent, im good with powershell, query languages, and ive been through some ruby tutorials, I can read that.  Did you have language in mind?

I doubt they will, given that justification would require an example.

I would not use AutoIt to find the contour of anything beyond a shape on a solid colour background.

But I suppose there is an opencv udf in example scripts, which could possible chugger through such a task. (I've not looked at or used it, so I really am just making that up)

In attempting explanations, I see the issue with describing it, is that it gets far too exact,  I dont want exact.   If you can ID the elongated digits of an apparatus and count them, i want to see it done.

  I've seen way too many sexy GDI+ scripts out of western Europe to doubt their skills, whether or not they can be bribed is tbd.
