In this sense, regexp solutions to beginner questions are generally too difficult for the OP to understand. Such solutions should still should be provided because it's asking too much to expect someone to spend months (or years) solving a problem which requires a working solution within a few days.

I do the same as you and @BrewManNH , and I'm quite happy to tweak UDF functions to suit my own purposes - especially if I can get a slow function to run several times faster (which sometimes happens).
