Interact with Internet Explorer File Save Dialog Box

Recommended Posts

I am having trouble interacting with a file save as dialog box in internet explorer, and was hoping someone could give me some direction.

I've created a script that displays a list of orders that I want to download, and then click the export option to save the list as a csv file.  The trouble is when the dialog box pops up to open, save, or save as.  I would like to save as, and name the file based on yesterday's date.   I have tried clicking the box with a mouse click, but nothing happens.  I have also tried using WinActivate, but it still doesn't react.  If I push down twice and hit enter on my keyboard, the file name box opens, but that doesn't work using send keys.  I am guessing I am not controlling the window properly, and don't know how to troubleshoot that part.  Here is the window info and my code:

I think you should use AdlibRegister and AdlibUnRegister.
Like this:

#include <MsgBoxConstants.au3>

Example()

Func Example()
    ; here you should search content on the website

    ; Register the function MyAdLibFunc() to be called every 250ms (default).
    AdlibRegister("MyAdLibFunc")

    ; here you need to click _IEAction($o...., 'click')  to popup FileSaveDialog

    ; Unregister the function MyAdLibFunc() from being called every 250ms.
    AdlibUnRegister("MyAdLibFunc")
EndFunc   ;==>Example

Func MyAdLibFunc()
    ; here you need to put your FILE SAVE DIALOG Management function
    $hWND = WinWait("[CLASS:DirectUIHWND; INSTANCE:1]")
    WinActivate($hWnd)
    ControlClick("[CLASS:DirectUIHWND; INSTANCE:1]", "", "[CLASS:Button; INSTANCE:3]")
    Send("onlinesales"&$M & $D & $Y&"{ENTER}") ;name the file, cursor should already be there
    WinWaitClose($hWnd)
EndFunc   ;==>MyAdLibFunc

Remarks:

This what you see in IE is normal behavior.
When you click in button and Dialog PopUps then IE is waiting ....... so _IELoadWait is never happend until you close PopUped Dialog.

This is how I understand this case:
When you click in object which PopUp dialog window then Click method will end when Dialog will be closed.
So the script is holding  not in AutoIt scirpt line but inside ActiveX object .

EDIT:
This is quite possible that

_IEAction($o...., 'click')

will hold your script even when you use AdlibRegister and AdlibUnRegister.
Check it and back with information.

Instead of _ieaction 'click', you can 'focus'...then send enter at the browser to do the click...maybe it's spacebar?  One of those will do it.

That won't deadlock the script.

There are still lots of failures that can occur in doing that...I actually fileinstall an exe (compiled script), which I initiate (using run, not runwait) with command line params (one for the hwnd of the browser, and the other to id the object) to perform the click on the object, that way, that script is deadlocked, leaving my driving script the ability to perform action on the popup.

Here is the bottom of my code with the function and adlibregister:

AdlibRegister("MyAdLibFunc")
MouseClick($MOUSE_CLICK_LEFT, 928, 725, 1) ;click export file link to open save dialog box
AdlibUnRegister("MyAdLibFunc")

Func MyAdLibFunc()
    ; here you need to put your FILE SAVE DIALOG Management function
    $hWND = WinWait("[CLASS:DirectUIHWND; INSTANCE:1]")
    WinActivate($hWnd)
    MouseClick($MOUSE_CLICK_LEFT, 441, 323, 1) ;move over save as button
    ControlClick("[CLASS:DirectUIHWND; INSTANCE:1]", "", "[CLASS:Button; INSTANCE:3]")
    Send("onlinesales"&$M & $D & $Y&"{ENTER}") ;name the file, cursor should already be there
    WinWaitClose($hWnd)
EndFunc   ;==>MyAdLibFunc

I am getting the same result.  Once I click on the button to export the file, it opens the save dialog box and the mouse doesn't move.

What does it mean for the script to be deadlocked, and what is causing that in my case?

  • 3 months later...

Thank you for directing me to that.  I can pnly get it to work when I have 2 separate scripts.  The first script opens ie and generates the save as dialog box, then I use the script generated by simplespy.au3 to click on it.  For some reason I can't get it to work when I put the simple spy script at the bottom of my original script.

Here is the basics of the first script:

$oIE = _IECreate ("http://website.com")
_IELoadWait($oIE)

;~ *** A few steps in the middle***

$oButtons6 = _IETagnameGetCollection($oIE, "a")
_IELinkClickByText($oIE,"Export Report")
_IELoadWait($oIE,3000)

AutoItSetOption("MustDeclareVars", 1)

Local $oP2=_UIA_getObjectByFindAll($UIA_oDesktop, "Title:=TAMSII - Data Review - Internet Explorer;controltype:=UIA_WindowControlTypeId;class:=IEFrame", $treescope_children)
_UIA_Action($oP2,"setfocus")
Local $oP1=_UIA_getObjectByFindAll($oP2, "Title:=;controltype:=UIA_PaneControlTypeId;class:=Frame Notification Bar", $treescope_children)
_UIA_Action($oP1,"setfocus")
Local $oP0=_UIA_getObjectByFindAll($oP1, "Title:=Notification;controltype:=UIA_ToolBarControlTypeId;class:=DirectUIHWND", $treescope_children)
_UIA_Action($oP0,"setfocus")
;~ First find the object in the parent before you can do something
;~$oUIElement=_UIA_getObjectByFindAll("Save.mainwindow", "title:=Save;ControlType:=UIA_SplitButtonControlTypeId", $treescope_subtree)
Local $oUIElement=_UIA_getObjectByFindAll($oP0, "title:=Save;ControlType:=UIA_SplitButtonControlTypeId", $treescope_subtree)
_UIA_action($oUIElement,"click")
