Custom Message box

Recommended Posts

I want my message box to display some text followed by item checked in a listview. How do I do that?

I want something like this:

The following Text will be printed:

1. Text1

2. Text2

3. And so on

Text1 and Text2 are items that are checked in a listview.

pranaynanda,

Use _GUICtrlListView_GetItemChecked in a loop (use _GUICtrlListView_GetItemCount  to find the loop limit) and if the item is checked, then use _GUICtrlListView_GetItemText to get the content. Concatenate these into a string and add it to your MsgBox.

You are re-asking essentially the same question that I have already answered - and my comment on not using a MsgBox is equally valid in this case.

@Melba23 I am re-asking it because you recommended to open up a new thread in GH&S. I understand what you wish to say. But I want something with the look and feel of a message box. I want it to be a blocking function. I also get your point about the size. There can be as many as 15 items checked in a listview. So I would want the GUI to expand and adjust itself as per the content.

@Skysnake Here's that piece of code:

Func _start($computer)
   Dim $sArray[1]
   $count = _GUICtrlListView_GetItemCount($ListView1)
    $aCount = 0
    For $i = 1 To $count Step 1
        If _GUICtrlListView_GetItemChecked($ListView1, $i-1)  = True Then
            $sArray[$aCount]=_GUICtrlListView_GetItemText($ListView1, $i - 1, 1)
            ReDim $sArray[UBound($sArray) + 1]
            $aCount += 1
        EndIf
     Next

$mbox=MsgBox(4164,"Stopping Services","Do you want to Stop these services?")

   If $mbox=6 Then

   ProgressOn("Stop services", "Stopping" & $sArray, "", -1, -1, 16)

   For $i = 1 To UBound($sArray) - 1 Step 1
      $service = $sArray[$i - 1]
      RunWait("sc \\" & $computer & " stop "  & '"' & $service & '"')
      ProgressSet($i / (UBound($sArray) - 1) * 100, Round($i / (UBound($sArray) - 1) * 100, 0) & "%", "Stopping " & $i & " of " & UBound($sArray) - 1)
   Next
   Sleep(5000)
   ProgressOff()
   _populate($machine)
   EndIf

EndFunc

I have manipulated $mbox to suit current requirement temporarily. But I actually want the statement to be followed by the items in $sArray.

Edit: My application exits on encountering an error. How do I get it to report the error and not exit?

:)

Yes, the message box will define its own size based on content, for smaller content, expect the title  to be truncated.

Not sure what this means:

This:

Func _start($computer)
    Dim $sArray[1]
    Local $sMsg = @CRLF & @CRLF
    $count = _GUICtrlListView_GetItemCount($ListView1)
    $aCount = 0
    For $i = 1 To $count Step 1
        If _GUICtrlListView_GetItemChecked($ListView1, $i - 1) = True Then
            $sArray[$aCount] = _GUICtrlListView_GetItemText($ListView1, $i - 1, 1)
            $sMsg &= $sArray[$aCount] & @CRLF
            ReDim $sArray[UBound($sArray) + 1]
            $aCount += 1
        EndIf
    Next
$mbox = MsgBox(4164, "Stopping Services", "Do you want to Stop" & $sMsg & "these services?")
    If $mbox = 6 Then
        ProgressOn("Stop services", "Stopping" & $sArray, "", -1, -1, 16)
        For $i = 1 To UBound($sArray) - 1 Step 1
            $service = $sArray[$i - 1]
            RunWait("sc \\" & $computer & " stop " & '"' & $service & '"')
            ProgressSet($i / (UBound($sArray) - 1) * 100, Round($i / (UBound($sArray) - 1) * 100, 0) & "%", "Stopping " & $i & " of " & UBound($sArray) - 1)
        Next
        Sleep(5000)
        ProgressOff()
        _populate($machine)
    EndIf
EndFunc   ;==>_start

should do the job.

Or use AutoIt's Ping function.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

@Skysnake You're right. Ping command was much of an example. I wanted to run a custom tool that produced some output on the console.  I got that on another thread though

The replies didn't seem to work on the client as the process takes about 30 secs to compute output.  I'm gonna try them on the server where output in instant. If that doesn't work, I'll get back right here at GH&S.

How about you force the DOS command to write to an on disk log file, then FileRead?

make a batch file with this content to test:

echo off
ping %computername% > mydoslog.txt

after this, you should have a local file named mydoslog.txt, which you can open with Notepad or AutoIt FileRead, simply wait until file exists?
