I want to stop the running function but keep the GUI running, but when I used the exit function it terminated the script, I need a way to stop the running functions and just go back to the GUI

CT83,

Please pay attention to where you post - the "Examples" section where you started this thread is clearly marked: "Do not post general support questions here".  I have moved it for you, but would ask you to be more careful in future.

You need to use the "Return" keyword, rather then "Exit", to return from functions.

CT83,

How about this?

#include <GUIConstantsEx.au3>

$hGUI = GUICreate("Test", 500, 500)

$cRun = GUICtrlCreateButton("Run", 10, 10, 80, 30)

$cEdit = GUICtrlCreateEdit("", 10, 50, 400, 400)

GUISetState()

While 1
    Switch GUIGetMsg()
        Case $GUI_EVENT_CLOSE
            Exit
        Case $cRun
            _Example()
    EndSwitch
WEnd

Func _Example()
    ; Gte current time
    $iCurrSec = @SEC
    ; Add 5 secs to current time
    $iSec = $iCurrSec + 5
    If $iSec > 59 Then
        $iSec -= 60
    EndIf

    ; Start an infinite loop
    While 1

        ; Every new second
        If @SEC <> $iCurrSec Then
            ; If the correct second
            If @SEC = $iSec Then
                ; Exit the function
                GUICtrlSetData($cEdit, GUICtrlRead($cEdit) & @CRLF & "Returning at " & @SEC & " seconds!")
                Return
            Else
                ; Show we are running
                GUICtrlSetData($cEdit, GUICtrlRead($cEdit) & @CRLF & "Still running at " & @SEC & " seconds!")
            EndIf
            ; Reset the current second
            $iCurrSec = @SEC
        EndIf
    WEnd
EndFunc

Please ask if you have any questions.
