Help getting IE drop down selection to work

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I'm relatively new with Autoit, but have had good success.  I am trying to use a scanner to read bar codes, qualify them, then push them into an online form. Everything is working well except... There are three areas on the form that have input fields. I can only control the first grouping.

Here is a snippet of the HTML code and how I successfully manipulate it:

<label for="kiosk_model">Model</label>
  </td>
  <td>
  <div class="select-holder ico ico-angle-down">
  <select name="kiosk[kiosk_model_id]" id="kiosk_kiosk_model_id"><option value="">Select a model</option>
  <option value="7">OSK 0.0</option>
  <option value="1">OSK 1.2</option>
  <option value="3">OSK 1.3</option>
  <option value="6">OSK 1.4</option>
  <option value="2">OSK 2.2</option>
  <option value="4">OSK 2.3</option>
  <option value="5">Sample Testing Rack</option></select>
  </div>
  </td>
  </tr>

$oIE_Status = _IEGetObjById($oIE, 'kiosk_kiosk_model_id')    ; works perfectly
        ;MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "Model", "$oIE_Status = " & $oIE_Status.innertext, 3)  ;debugging, proves that I found it
    Sleep(1000)
        _IEFormElementOptionSelect($oIE_Status, $Model, 1, 'byText')

        Send("{ESCAPE 2}")
            Sleep(1000)

Farther down the same form, I have this HTML:

<label for="kiosk_pcm">Pcm</label>
  </td>
  <td>
  <div class="select-holder ico ico-angle-down js-select-pcm">
  <select name="kiosk[pcm_id]" id="kiosk_pcm_id"><option value="">Select PCM</option>
  <option value="705">MAVENWAVE</option>
  <option value="2">PCM20000002</option>
  <option value="1">PCM20000003</option>
  <option value="3">PCM20000004</option>
  <option value="4">PCM20000005</option>

(etc)

Which looks the same to me!

This, however, does nothing.  The debugging window says "0"

$oIE_Status = _IEGetObjById($oIE, 'kiosk_pcm_id') ; FAIL!
        MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "PCM", "$oIE_Status = " & $oIE_Status.innertext, 3); FAIL!

        _IEFormElementOptionSelect($oIE_Status, 3, 1, 'byIndex') ; doesn't do anything because object isn't selected
_IEFormElementOptionSelect($oIE_Status, "12345", 1, 'byText') ; also doesn't do anything
        Send("{ESCAPE}")

Take two:

<label for="kiosk_model">Model</label>
    </td>
    <td>
    <div class="select-holder ico ico-angle-down">
    <select name="kiosk[kiosk_model_id]" id="kiosk_kiosk_model_id"><option value="">Select a model</option>
    <option value="7">OSK 0.0</option>
    <option value="1">OSK 1.2</option>
    <option value="3">OSK 1.3</option>
    <option value="6">OSK 1.4</option>
    <option value="2">OSK 2.2</option>
    <option value="4">OSK 2.3</option>
    <option value="5">Sample Testing Rack</option></select>
    </div>
    </td>
    </tr>

For the code above, this works fine.

$oIE_Status = _IEGetObjById($oIE, 'kiosk_kiosk_model_id')    ; works perfectly
        ;MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "Model", "$oIE_Status = " & $oIE_Status.innertext, 3)  ;debugging, proves that I found it
    Sleep(1000)
        _IEFormElementOptionSelect($oIE_Status, $Model, 1, 'byText')

        Send("{ESCAPE 2}")
            Sleep(1000)

The following does not.

$oIE_Status = _IEGetObjById($oIE, 'kiosk_pcm_id') ; FAIL!
        MsgBox($MB_SYSTEMMODAL, "PCM", "$oIE_Status = " & $oIE_Status.innertext, 3); FAIL!

        _IEFormElementOptionSelect($oIE_Status, 3, 1, 'byIndex') ; doesn't do anything because object isn't selected
        _IEFormElementOptionSelect($oIE_Status, "12345", 1, 'byText') ; also doesn't do anything
        Send("{ESCAPE}")

for this very similar code.

<label for="kiosk_pcm">Pcm</label>
    </td>
    <td>
    <div class="select-holder ico ico-angle-down js-select-pcm">
    <select name="kiosk[pcm_id]" id="kiosk_pcm_id"><option value="">Select PCM</option>

    <option value="1">PCM20000003</option>
    <option value="3">PCM20000004</option>
    <option value="4">PCM20000005</option>

Hi @Mr_Microphone.

When i run this simple code, based on your information:

#include <IE.au3>
$oIE = _IECreate()
$sHTML = '<table>'& _
'   <tr>'& _
'       <td>'& _
'           <label for="kiosk_pcm">Pcm</label>'& _
'       </td>'& _
'       <td>'& _
'           <div class="select-holder ico ico-angle-down js-select-pcm">'& _
'               <select name="kiosk[pcm_id]" id="kiosk_pcm_id">'& _
'                   <option value="">Select PCM</option>'& _
'                   <option value="705">MAVENWAVE</option>'& _
'                   <option value="2">PCM20000002</option>'& _
'                   <option value="1">PCM20000003</option>'& _
'                   <option value="3">PCM20000004</option>'& _

'           </div>'& _
'       </td>'& _
'   </tr>'& _
'</table>'
_IEBodyWriteHTML($oIE, $sHTML)

$oSelect = _IEGetObjById($oIE, "kiosk_pcm_id")
MsgBox(0, "", $oSelect.innerText)
_IEFormElementOptionSelect($oSelect, 3, 1, 'byIndex')

I get no error.

I assume the HTML you posted:

Is correct in the structure and you just include the snippet?

If problems still occur, a link to the page may help us find a reason :)

Thanks. Unfortunately, the code is internal and the company considers it their intellectual property.  The only guess I had was that, since the id appears a few other places on the same form, getting object by id doesn't know which one I want.

Because I had to get it going, I came up with a really clunky work around. After I fill in the last field that works, I tab (sleep, tab...) 25 times down to the field I want. It's lousy form, but mostly works.

I want to build in a little routine that verifies that I landed on the correct option, but I haven't found any way to do that. Can anyone point me towards a command that may help??

So talk with the side designer about the id's. He could explain which one is the one you want/need.
