Recompile source with variable changes [Solved]

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Here is a random one, even for me ^^

Is it possible to have compiled code recompile itself using generated inputs.

Here is some pseudo code as an example.

Test.au3 is compiled with  $Value1 = ""

Test.exe is now run, sees $Value1 is empty. An Input box is prompted. User sets $Value1 to "something"

Text.exe now compiles a new .exe, for example Test1.exe with $Value1 as "something" and Text.exe exits

Test1.exe can now be run. No inputboxes are prompted and $Value1 is "something"

What does everyone think?

Impossible like that, but you still can store a resource in the executable and that is open to change. Load the resource at startup and read your stored value from there, edit the resource at will (but not in 2 lines of code!).

Thanks everyones input :)

Following the advice i have dropped the idea above, the soultion i am going with is using ResHack.

Test1.exe will check a its own properties

If product name is empty, it will copy itself as test2.exe and use ResHack comand line to change the product name.

Now running test2.exe checks it properties, see product name has a value and uses that.

Hopefully that will help someone else if they have that problem.
