Autoit's future

Recommended Posts

I'm writing a blog about my appreciation of Autoit.  In fairness I point out the last update was in 2015 and even Jon's last forum entry was in January of 2017.

Am I right in pointing out that Autoit continues to grow by additions of UDFs etc.

Is active development going to resume; is there a need for it to resume?

Is the future of this site and forums more or less assured for the coming years?

I'd appreciate thoughts on this to make the post accurate.

You need to have a certain number of posts before you can view the Chat forum.

In answer to all of your questions, the answer is yes.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I hereby grant any person the right to use any code I post, that I am the original author of, on the autoitscript.com forums, unless I've specifically stated otherwise in the code or the thread post. If you do use my code all I ask, as a courtesy, is to make note of where you got it from.

Back up and restore Windows user files _Array.au3 - Modified array functions that include support for 2D arrays.  -  ColorChooser - An add-on for SciTE that pops up a color dialog so you can select and paste a color code into a script.  -  Customizable Splashscreen GUI w/Progress Bar - Create a custom "splash screen" GUI with a progress bar and custom label.  -  _FileGetProperty - Retrieve the properties of a file  -  SciTE Toolbar - A toolbar demo for use with the SciTE editor  -  GUIRegisterMsg demo - Demo script to show how to use the Windows messages to interact with controls and your GUI.  -   Latin Square password generator

@MarkStout Your are a new user here so you cannot access the chat forum (yet). There are a lot of recent topics regarding the same question. Is AutoIt's Development Active? :D

The answer in a nutshell is yes, the UDFs and other things are indeed in development. Jon is just taking a break from updating the AutoIt Interpreter... fair enough because there isn't much on the ToDo list ;)

Thank you everyone.  I'll post the link to the blog post here when I make it for comments.

It won't be for a while.  It is a companion piece to an app I'm working on that is done yet.  I am my worst enemy with scope creep.

  • 2 weeks later...

Those won't have anything anyone here does not already know better than I do, but here is my blog post explaining what Autoit is and why I chose to use it.

Thank you again to everyone who helped answer my question here.

Thanks to the TheDcoder for pointing out I linked the wrong post.

The right one :  http://markstout.blogspot.com/2017/06/why-i-use-autoit-3-for-many-of-my.html
