aleph01
Greetings, I have a user whose Office 2013 desktop shortcuts are not persistent. Several techs have looked at it and it is evading every attempt at remedy. Thought I'd write a simple script to resolve the issue. FileInstall ("C:\Users\keitht\Desktop\Outlook 2013.lnk", "C:\Users\raush\desktop\", 0) FileInstall ("C:\Users\keitht\Desktop\Word 2013.lnk", "C:\Users\raush\desktop\", 0) FileInstall ("C:\Users\keitht\Desktop\Publisher 2013.lnk", "C:\Users\raush\desktop\", 0) FileInstall ("C:\Users\keitht\Desktop\PowerPoint 2013.lnk", "C:\Users\raush\desktop\", 0) This code gives me no results, not even an error message. I tried with a .txt file as well, and put a sleep at the end to confirm that the script is running. It runs, but it doesn't perform. Changed the flag to 1 to overwrite, nothing. I'm hoping someone can point out the error of my ways. Thanks, aleph Meds. They're not just for breakfast anymore.
BrewManNH
Have you tried using FileCreateShortcut? If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.Give a programmer the correct code and he can do his work for a day. aleph01
Hi, BrewMan! No, I didn't. But I think I've found my issue. I'm using a non-admin account and I think Windows is giving me grief. I made the User folder, now Windows doesn't think I should be writing to it. I've used the script successfully by creating C:\New Folder and directing the output to that folder. The user should be able to write to her own desktop. I'll be able to confirm tomorrow. Consider this solved unless I return with more woes. Thanks, aleph Meds. They're not just for breakfast anymore. Subz
Just use the macro @DesktopDir for example: FileInstall ("C:\Users\keitht\Desktop\Outlook 2013.lnk", @DesktopDir, 0) FileInstall ("C:\Users\keitht\Desktop\Word 2013.lnk", @DesktopDir, 0) FileInstall ("C:\Users\keitht\Desktop\Publisher 2013.lnk", @DesktopDir, 0) FileInstall ("C:\Users\keitht\Desktop\PowerPoint 2013.lnk", @DesktopDir, 0)
