_ExcelRangeWrite Help

I am having a hard time figuring out the correct syntax for what I am trying to do.   In an excel spreadsheet I count the number of rows

Global $aLastRow = $oWorkBook.ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Rows.Count
_Excel_RangeWrite($oWorkBook, Default, '=COUNTIF("A1:A" & $aLastRow), "1")', "A" & $aLastRow +1); this is the one I cannot figure out
_Excel_RangeWrite($oWorkBook, Default, '=COUNTIF(A1:A48, "1")', "A" & $aLastRow +2) ; this one works

The number of rows will vary as I go thru all the files in the list.   How do I write or can I write it so it will see $aLastRow as the data to be written in the line that I cannot figure out?  I will not be using both lines.  Just wanted to show what I can get to work and what I cannot get to work.

Thank you

I think this should work:

_Excel_RangeWrite($oWorkBook, Default, '=COUNTIF("A1:A' & $aLastRow & '"', "1")', "A" & $aLastRow +1)
