Is it possible to create a GUI to place many controls in a limited amount of "height" ?

Hi.

For a certain task I need to display a too long grid of controls.

As I want to avoid to split this on multiple tabs, I'd like to use a scroll bar on the right hand side, as visible in this "manually faked" GUID below.

Is this possible? Looking through the various GuiCtrlCreate*() functions, as well at the controls I can create using the Koda FormDesigner I couldn't see, howto...

Regards, Rudi.

rudi,

My Scrollbars UDF (look in my sig for the link) makes this easy to do. But I agree with jchd - why not use a ListView?

Are you perhaps thinking of my GUIExtender UDF? It allows you hide/show multiple controls in one command, but I do not think it is suitable for this as you need to be able to see all of these items at once.

Hello,

thanks to all of you for your replies, I will follow up your suggestions.

With ListView I can only display, but don't select entries, right? It will look often like this, only the "checked" files will be collected for further processing

Great UDF!!!

Is it possible to also create scrollbars just for the "Group Control" within the whole GUI, so that everything below that group will remain visible at all times?

I tried to use

_GUIScrollbars_Generate($hGroup,$wGroup-20,$hGroup)

... instead of ...

_GUIScrollbars_Generate($MyGui,$wGUI-20,$hGUI)

The first post shows how I would like it to look like.

Regards, Rudi.

rudi,

As I show in the first example script in the UDF zip package, you need a child window to do this:

#include <GUIConstantsEx.au3>
#include <WindowsConstants.au3>

#include "GUIScrollbars_Ex.au3"

; Create main GUI
$hGUI = GUICreate("Test", 500, 500)

GUICtrlCreateButton("Always visible", 10, 10, 80, 30)

GUICtrlCreateGroup("Scrollable", 10, 50, 480, 380)

GUICtrlCreateButton("Always visible", 10, 460, 80, 30)

GUISetState(@SW_HIDE, $hGUI)

; Create child window which will be scrollable
$hAperture = GUICreate("", 440, 340, 30, 70, $WS_POPUP, $WS_EX_MDICHILD, $hGUI)
GUISetBkColor(0xFF0000)

For $i = 0 To 20
    For $j = 0 To 6
        GUICtrlCreateLabel($i & "-" & $j, 10 + ($j * 60), 10 + ($i * 40), 50, 30)
        GUICtrlSetBkColor(-1, 0x00FF00)
    Next
Next

GUISetState(@SW_HIDE, $hAperture)

; make the scrollbars
_GUIScrollbars_Generate($hAperture, 0, 21 * 40)

GUISetState(@SW_SHOW, $hGUI)
GUISetState(@SW_SHOW, $hAperture)

While 1

    Switch GUIGetMsg()
        Case $GUI_EVENT_CLOSE
            Exit
    EndSwitch

WEnd

@Melba23

Hi, thanks for the explanation with the child window. I missed, that this is even possible...

$hAperture = GUICreate("", 440, 340, 30, 70, $WS_POPUP, $WS_EX_MDICHILD, $hGUI)

Have a nice weekend, regards, Rudi.

edit: Questions...

#include <GUIConstantsEx.au3>
#include <WindowsConstants.au3>

#include "GUIScrollbars_Ex.au3"

; Create main GUI
$hGUI = GUICreate("Test", 500, 500)

; button at the top of GUI
GUICtrlCreateButton("Always visible", 10, 10, 80, 30)

; just an empty "frame"
GUICtrlCreateGroup("Scrollable", 10, 50, 480, 380)

; Button at the bottom of the GUI
GUICtrlCreateButton("Always visible", 10, 460, 80, 30)

GUISetState(@SW_HIDE, $hGUI)

; Create child window which will be scrollable
$hAperture = GUICreate("", 400, 340, 30, 70, $WS_POPUP, $WS_EX_MDICHILD, $hGUI)
; this child window is just "fitting over" the empty "group element" by it's coordinates, no relation to the Group Element, right?
GUISetBkColor(0xFF0000)

For $i = 0 To 20 ; why does this go to the child window, not the main $hGUI window? Because it's going to the "last" GUI created?
    For $j = 0 To 6
        GUICtrlCreateLabel($i & "-" & $j, 10 + ($j * 60), 10 + ($i * 40), 50, 30)
        GUICtrlSetBkColor(-1, 0x00FF00)
    Next
Next

GUISetState(@SW_HIDE, $hAperture)

; make the scrollbars
_GUIScrollbars_Generate($hAperture, 0, 21 * 40)

GUISetState(@SW_SHOW, $hGUI)
GUISetState(@SW_SHOW, $hAperture)

While 1

    Switch GUIGetMsg()
        Case $GUI_EVENT_CLOSE
            Exit
    EndSwitch

WEnd

Correct. And you also have determine the size of the scroll to use in _GUIScrollbars_Generate by doing some basic maths on the controls you create in this GUI so that they all fit

Quote

; why does this go to the child window, not the main $hGUI window? Becaus it's going to the "last" GUI created?

Also correct. AutoIt uses what is termed the "current" GUI to create controls - this is the last one created or the one set by GUISwitch.

Hi.

thanks for your answer.

GUISwitch() I didn't notice before as well.

It might be a good idea to mention this "current GUI" thing and this function  GUISwitch() in the help file for all the GuiCtrlCreate*() functions?

Regards, Rudi.
