Windows 10 telemetry auto- re-enables after major update

This may be old news, but being on the delayed update channel, I only recently upgraded to the 1709 version of Win10 (and all subsequent patches), and checking its telemetry settings afterwards (don't like to be tracked), I discovered that the telemetry settings I'd manually switched off long ago had magically been turned back on again. I presume this may happen with other major Win10 updates as well. So if you're wondering about the current status of these settings in your own Win10 environment, there are numerous free tools to check and change them (I'm currently using ShutUp10). YMMV. Just thought I'd mentioned it.

Im in the Dev Ring (upgraded to build 18267 today), and even minor updates to defender tend to scrub entries. I would recommend refiring the GP or a few manual entries from the startup script (it has always left that alone).

I'm still on WIn 7 with my Netbook (web browsing PC), and I noticed some entries in the Task Manager today that I'd not seen before, and so I am guessing some recent Windows Update enabled the Telemetry stuff I had opted out of way back when I got the Netbook.

Damn thing was running slow so I went looking under ALL Users, and that was what I found. Rotten mongrels.

Several items now stopped and disabled in the Task Scheduler, that were set to run every day.

For me and company machines  windows 10 LSTB, or professional, and I always and still use DWS (link) , on some social I have also talked with the developer and my impression is the program is "safe".

And yes I reRUN DWS after a major update.

You can also remove a lot of METRO crapware, and with a lot of services disabled old machines are quicker.

Just pay attention to hosts entries, some are disabling Office activation servers, (BTW perfectly fine for us, only Gdrive and LibreOffice).

@TheSaint: thanks for alerting me to the Task Scheduler where I also found additional crapware feasting on my precious CPU cycles.

@t0nZ: Thanks for the suggestion; I'll try it out.

Github is like a cesspool. I am going to actually officially test VM’s performance with none of that stuff disabled and with all of that stuff disabled to actually see what kind of performance increases you guys are talking about because I doubt there’s much

My resources are limited. You must ask the right questions

If only all apples and oranges were the same, and they all fell off the tree at the same time.

A bit hard to do a conclusive test I reckon. Sluggishness on my power challenged Netbook resolved itself after I disabled said items, so that is conclusive enough for me in my circumstance.
