reading and writing to an .exe

I know that autoit only presently has options for reading and writing to a .dll. However, its indicated in a few posts in the forum that its possible to read and write to an .exe like for example in this post:

The script at that post doesn;t seem to work for some reason, don't know if its me or what. Anyway, is there a simple way to do this?

I believe that your linked thread discusses the reading and writing of a process in memory and not any actual files.

The beta features 'binary strings' which should help you modify any conceivable file type.
