Long delay to see changes after ControlSetText()

I have an input control whose text I change under various circumstances using ControlSetText(). It always works, but it can take 5-7 seconds for the revised text to display, regardless of whether I set the final 'flag' parameter to zero or non-zero.  I'm doing this in event mode, and the sleep in the main loop is only 20 Msecs.

What's the deal?  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for helping!

Is this a control in your own GUI, or a third party program?

Post your script so we know what you're doing.

If I posted any code, assume that code was written using the latest release version unless stated otherwise. Also, if it doesn't work on XP I can't help with that because I don't have access to XP, and I'm not going to.

I hereby grant any person the right to use any code I post, that I am the original author of, on the autoitscript.com forums, unless I've specifically stated otherwise in the code or the thread post. If you do use my code all I ask, as a courtesy, is to make note of where you got it from.

Thank you, @BrewManNH, for your reply.  It appears this issue resulted from some unusual state my system was in. I thought it persisted even after a reboot, but I must have misremembered since as of today, the issue no longer occurs.

Thank you for your time.
