Send barcode input to 2 different applications

Recommended Posts

Needed a script that can do the following. Using a barcode scanner read a 6 digit number and then pass that number to 2 different applications that are on a 2 screen setup. Monitor one runs a Excel file that is looking for the 6 digit number to verify "membership"  Monitor 2 is used to send that same number to a chrome webpage that verifies "membership" to a different group.  Also (not needed but would be nice) is this. Monitor 2 screen needs to be "reset" after it verifies its membership. this is done by clicking on a input field displayed on the screen after the verify process.

Sad to say I am not a programmer but have had some limited experience with Basic many years ago which is somewhat of a help. Perhaps there is a script out there that can be modified to do the task I have outlined above.  Thanks for looking at my problem.

Hi @rbabler, and :welcome: to the AutoIt forum :)

Here we can assist you with your script, but to get you started, you may look at Excel UDF (list of functions here) to automate the Excel part, and IE UDF or WebDriver UDF to deal with the webpage.

You'll find a lot of examples which you can play with, so, just modify and test them to see if they fit your needs.

If you have any question or issue with your script, please don't be afraid and post it with the related question(s) :)

It depends what kind of output the barcode scanner generates. I purchased one several years ago, it sent the output to stdin as though the barcode had been typed on the keyboard. I imagine yours would be the same. I don't think you can easily split that to two different applications.

It would probably be easier to have one of your scripts handle the barcode and when it receives a valid code it can write the code to a local semaphore file which the second script would then read.

I thought I would be informed when a reply was posted but am not sorry for the late response.  From your post as of now the Excel portion is set so we can verify that half of the task. Want to clarify your links  IE UDF  this only works with Internet Explorer right,
