Migration from AHK - OSC Support?

Recommended Posts

Hi, recently AHK received a DLL for OSC Support that works very well and it is very important on my project.

But I'm looking for AHK alternatives due some limitations on it.

I heard about AutoIT and most people say that AutoIT is more complete and easier to work.

The question is: AutoIT has OSC Support? Someone already used it? Can send some sample code?

Please provide more details about OSC.

As long as the required Visual C runtime (vcruntime140_1.dll) can be found, the DLL opens without any errors.

What limitations did you encounter with AHK? Would suggest that you research to make sure that you won't have same problems with AutoIt.

For example:

I'm working on a project that I need to "find" the buttons and fields of a software. But I don't have an API that will return that for me.

So I use mouse move/click/drag to specific positions.

But this cause another problem: If the person don't use the same resolution/DPI Scale than me, all the positions of the buttons/fields need to be set again because it will be all different.

Maybe AutoIT would have a better option than "fixed specific positions"???

Maybe AutoIT can capture the software buttons/fields?

I don't know, just trying to find a more advanced tool than AHK.

@AndreRodriguesFrom your description, it sounds like you need to interact with some 3rd party software, correct? If so, can you tell us more about this software (name, website, etc)?

Yes, is the Davinci Resolve.

I already have my software working well, but now with tangent mapper having OSC communication, I'm working on a Version 2.0 of my software.

I don't have a clue about how the DLL actually works or interfaces with an osc-compatible app.  However, the DLL does appear to work within AutoIt.  You will need to do any further translation of the AHK code to AutoIt.  Of course this also implies that you need to learn AutoIt. ;)

#include <Constants.au3>

#cs
    Project: https://files.eleton-audio.de/gitea/Ludwig/OSC2AHK
#ce

osc2ahk_test()

Func osc2ahk_test()
    Local $hDll, $hWnd
    Local $aResult

    If Not @AutoItX64 Then Exit MsgBox($MB_ICONWARNING + $MB_TOPMOST, "WARNING", "The DLL requires a 64bit execution environment.")

    ;Get any test hWnd (most likely would be hWnd of media app)
    $hWnd = WinGetHandle(AutoItWinGetTitle())
    ConsoleWrite("OSC2AHK: $hWnd = " & $hWnd & @CRLF)

    ;Get a handle to DLL
    $hDll = DllOpen("OSC2AHK.dll")
    If $hDll = -1 Then Exit MsgBox($MB_ICONERROR + $MB_TOPMOST, "ERROR", "Unable to open DLL")
    ConsoleWrite("OSC2AHK: DLL successfully opened." & @CRLF)

    ;Open a listening port
    $aResult = DllCall($hDll, "int", "open", "handle", $hWnd, "uint", 7002)
    If @error Then
        Exit MsgBox($MB_ICONERROR + $MB_TOPMOST, "OSC2AHK ERROR", "Open DllCall failed.") ;DllCall failed
    ElseIf $aResult[0] <> 0 Then
        Exit MsgBox($MB_ICONERROR + $MB_TOPMOST, "OSC2AHK ERROR", "Open API failed.") ;API failed
    EndIf
    ConsoleWrite("OSC2AHK: Listening port successfully opened." & @CRLF)

    ;Close all listeners
    $aResult = DllCall($hDll, "int", "close", "uint", 1)
    If @error Then
        Exit MsgBox($MB_ICONERROR + $MB_TOPMOST, "OSC2AHK ERROR", "Close DllCall failed.") ;DllCall failed
    ElseIf $aResult[0] <> 0 Then
        Exit MsgBox($MB_ICONERROR + $MB_TOPMOST, "OSC2AHK ERROR", "Close API failed.") ;API failed
    EndIf
    ConsoleWrite("OSC2AHK: All listeners successfully closed." & @CRLF)

    ;Close DLL handle
    DllClose($hDll)
    ConsoleWrite("OSC2AHK: DLL closed." & @CRLF)
EndFunc

Console Output:

OSC2AHK: $hWnd = 0x0000000000510716

Nice! So it works with AutoIT too.

Now I need to learn if AutoIT can do some things as AHK and if I'll like and get used with it as I am with AHK.

I found AutoIT because I saw someone saying that AutoIT was more complete tha AHK tool. And the same person said that the community is more active.

As I can see in this post, at least the second affirmation is true. A lot of answers very fast on my post. At the AHK forum normally take days until someone answer something.

In the the future, there's no need to quote a whole post.  Just quote any relevant parts, if needed. :)
