Determin active Window?

hi there,

can someone give me a hint on how-to determin the active window?

I want to use the actual text selection of the current window, but don´t know even how-to get the window handle of the active window. I hope to be able to walk throught the object hierarchie once I got that window handle .. is this the right way?

window -> componentes .... -> container -> text selection?
