Numbers game

Here's a fun (difficult) time-wasting game I wrote that'll get you thinking!

It's based on http://n.nfshost.com, but I've gone through and changed a number of the puzzles I didn't like, or that relied on a web-based interface (viewing source, downloading CSS files, etc). Should be fun, it's a pretty simple program, so hopefully won't have any bugs :) . I only EnCoded() it because I don't want to spoil the fun of the original website's owner by putting the answers on a forum where it would be able to be google'd. Also, that way you can't cheat  (as easily).

This will keep track of your score, of course that's only interesting the first time you play it. You WILL need to look up stuff online...that's not cheating. It's only cheating if you look for the ANSWERS, rather than the METHOD :) . Wikipedia will be your friend. You'll also need a calculator that has bases, or to use Windows' calc.exe program in "scientific" mode.

Have fun...good luck!

Wow, thats difficult. Couldn't even give a hint?

Well, I could build in a hint button, but I was trying to keep in the spirit of the original game, which is pretty darn hard and has no hints, and even less instruction than this script.

If there's enough demand, I'll make a slick interface for hints to cascade down and deduct points ... or something...

At some point though, if everyone likes this enough, I'd like to split from the original game and kind of "make it my own" with a few more features, dynamic questions so it stays fresh, etc... so I don't feel confined within the "spirit of the original game" forever.

We'll see...

P.S. Average times for figuring out the original website game are averaging 5-8 hours on most sites I've seen. And yes, I did it without 'cheating' (in less time too, though I think most people on this forum are computer savvy enough to beat that 'average' time).

It's fun, but damn, I have a problem with the 'oooooo' are they zeros or ones? i cant get over 89 pts before i quit

How pitiful is that?

what comes after a 'tianfeng'?

EDIT:

Google tells me it's

a chemical in plastic, a Chinese monarch/soverign, or some dude on a Chinese version of 'myspace'

and the next chinese monarch 'Dihuang' didn't work

that's the correct answer though.

12 was hard, so I cheated :) 13 you changed I see so I shall never win :)

yes, 13 was evil on the original game...it's really not a way of writing the number at all, so it's one of the ones I changed.

what comes after a 'tianfeng'

Try it in wikipedia instead

Neat game...

Great score! But was that your first time getting to that screen?

Glad you're all liking it!

First time? I only tried it once. I wrote all the questions and answers to them down if you'd like me to send them to you to verify :).

wow...nice job then! You'd just usually see someone go through and remember the right answers, then run it again to get a score of 100% - pretty impressive you got everything right the first time!

And no, I believe you :)
