How can I start WORD from file.doc or EXCEL from file.xls

Recommended Posts

Hi y'all,

this is my first question in this forum, so bare with me:

I want to fire up the related application when I pick a file with FileOpenDialog().

I.e. let's say I select abc.doc, click on "Open", I want WORD to start with abc.doc.

I hope I can avoid looking up the opening application in

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts.

Anybody with a more elegant solution?

$File = FileOpenDialog(...)
ShellExecute($File)

Common sense plays a role in the basics of understanding AutoIt... If you're lacking in that, do us all a favor, and step away from the computer.

  • 1 month later...

Sorry, what do I need to have ShellExecute() function?

Thanks.

I updated my autoit v3 from 3.1.1 to latest and editor now detects the function (blue text instead of black)

but when I run the au3 file (test.au3) it says unknown function name.

Maybe I just need a computer restart...

You can always use run too if you didn't want to use ShellExecute.

Run("explorer.exe C:\yourdocument.doc")
EndFuncAutoIt is the shiznit. I love it.
