Can't close external program started by script

Recommended Posts

Since the Avi-muxGUI scripting routines are at an rudimentary level I'm trying to combine them with my own AutoIt script to batch mux a load of avis. Whether I call it up with any of those two commands (mux.txt being the file with the parameters needed for muxing):

Run("d:\progs\avimuxgui\avimux_gui.exe mux.txt", "", "" )

or

Run(@ComSpec & " /c " & 'd:\progs\avimuxgui\avimux_gui.exe mux.txt', "", "")

I am unable to close the Avi-muxGUI window after the muxing has finished. Even when I set a Sleep time of 20 secs and WinExist does find the window it just won't close. What am I missing?

The program you launch probably starts a new process on it's own. That could be the process you can't quit.

You could try:

  • 1: Save the pid returned from run.
  • 2. Use ProcessWaitClose and/or ProcessClose to terminate the process.

First>> Do you really need to use Run(@Comspec ? RunWait may be better.

Second>> If the app will run in Windows then use ShellExecute("avimux_gui.exe","mux.txt") Or ShellExecuteWait("avimux_gui.exe", "Mux.txt")

It may be waiting for something but try;

Using @Comspec

If ProcessExists("Cmd.exe") Then ProcessWaitClose("Cmd.exe")

Running in Windows

If ProcessExists("avimux_gui.exe") Then ProcessWaitClose("avimux_gui.exe")

Or Brute force

If ProcessExists(<process from above>) Then ProcessClose(<Process from above>)
