maybe a stupid question from me but, why don't you use a label instead of an edit box, so the user cannot type into it?

Or

Check and see if the edit has focus before searching for keys.

Is this to create a macro?

sortof and for label i want the person to still be able to use the textbox afterwards im now trying to disable it while finding keys

problem is it wont disable it
