I can understand your view dufran3 but I don't agree with it.

I see nothing wrong with selling software that is written in a language which is freeware.

How many people have made money writing books using information they got from public libraries, the internet and by questioning people who didn't get paid pay for their information?

In any case, it is impracticle to try to prevent it.

Ibrahim need not have told us he was making money out of his code so he should be given credit for that. He's seen a requirement, worked out a solution and sold it. That's the way the world works.

It hasn't done any harm to AutoIt.

Someone who makes money out of AutoIt should consider a contibution to the running costs though, and this would be a way of repaying the help.

Ideally I would prefer that anyone planning to sell code should declare that when they ask for support but I don't see it as necessarry.

I say well done Ibrahim.

Serial port communications UDF Includes functions for binary transmission and reception.printing UDF Useful for graphs, forms, labels, reports etc.Add User Call Tips to SciTE for functions in UDFs not included with AutoIt and for your own scripts.Functions with parameters in OnEvent mode and for Hot Keys One function replaces GuiSetOnEvent, GuiCtrlSetOnEvent and HotKeySet.UDF IsConnected2 for notification of status of connected state of many urls or IPs, without slowing the script.

There are some things that are just plain acceptable.

As an example, about 60% of commecial software is installed using freeware installers. That's considered acceptable. In the case of AutoIt scripts I think that credit should be given in the About dialog. That to me is a common courtesy. I don't think Jon ever intended that AutoIt should only be used for non-commercial applications.

And before the flack starts,

YES, I support freeware

YES, I support shareware and

YES, I support commerial software.

Determining the cost of software is up to the developer. Some only charge a postcard but do people pay by sending one? Not many.

On my site I have links to many apps including some of my own. None are commercial and I wil not post a link for commercial software unless I find that it's a "Must Have".

The descriptions for 3 of my own apps include the words "Freeware, but donations will always be greatfully accepted." with a PayPal button beside them. I get a lot of messages telling me how much the software has helped but in the last 3 years there has been a total of $5 USD deposited into the PayPal account. Am I upset? No. It was my choice to market it that way and peoples attitudes have failed to amaze me for a long time now.

well if you want to thank the people on the forum for helping you can allways make a thread or update your first post with a link

to the exe, and maybe a short explanation of the external tools and commands used to accomplish this.. you don't have to post the entire code but you could explain how it works by showing the simple components of this software.., others can use that as a start for their program (from which you can definately get more ideas for your next versions..)
