Autoit for XP and higher

Recommended Posts

Hi,

if Autoit just supports XP and Vista will there be a speed up chance?

Wouldn't it be easier?

Just a thought, I want to know whether it is worth creating a version just for XP and higher.

Thanks!

Scripts & functions Organize Includes Let Scite organize the include files

Yahtzee The game "Yahtzee" (Kniffel, DiceLion)

LoginWrapper Secure scripts by adding a query (authentication)

_RunOnlyOnThis UDF Make sure that a script can only be executed on ... (Windows / HD / ...)

Internet-Café Server/Client Application Open CD, Start Browser, Lock remote client, etc.

MultipleFuncsWithOneHotkey Start different funcs by hitting one hotkey different times

It wouldn't make a speed difference, just a slight size one.

Hi,

okay thanks! Did you already prepare to kick older Windows versions one time? Win98 and 2000 is out of support and one day you will have to decide to kick them I suppose.

Maybe it makes development and testing easier.

Or is there really no advantage doing that?

Valik developed a cool system where we can declare "newer" APIs in a special way that makes it fairly easy to support - it just adds a KB or so each time we use a new call and doesn't cause old OSes to complain.

why not make a version that only works with xp and vista... SO that us with xp and vista get a smaller version... that MIGHT give us a slight speed up...

Hi,

I also like this idea.

Maybe Gary is able to push all his great GUI-udfs when he doesn't have to consider WIN98 and 2000?!

The nightmare of managing yet another version of AutoIt on top of the Unicode/ANSI/x64 versions for the sake of 25-50KB means this is not going to happen. And the amount of bugs we get logged against ANSI related problems says that there is still a need for 9x versions no matter how personally annoying this is :)
