recording function missing?

I downloaded http://www.autoitscript.com/cgi-bin/getfil...iTE4AutoIt3.exe today and installed on Windows Vista. I also ran SciTE4Autoit3 in admin mode.

Alt-F6 in SciTE does absolutely nothing contrary to the description on http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/scite/, even when I have a valid .au3 file loaded. Additionally, there is no AU3Recorder anywhere in my installation tree. What did I miss?

Seems like the like I used the wrong file. There was something else I had to download and install in order to the missing tools.

Can you explain what you mean ?

I am pretty sure the SciTE4AutoIt3 package contains all tools like au3recorder etc ....

To see the tools in the menu you will need to have a file opened with extension .AU3 .

On http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/downloads.shtml, there's a link to download "Autoit Full Installation". This specifically is autoit-v3-setup.exe.

On http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/scite/downloads.shtml, however, there is SciTE4AutoIt3.exe.

I tried the former at first, and it didn't have tho alt-f6 functionality. Installing the latter brought that in. Since the former is labeled as "Autoit Full Installation", I thought there was nothing else to download or install. Of course, if I had read the details, I would have seen that the former included only a stripped-down editor.

I navigated to the former from http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/scite/ , which describes the different features of the editor, so I didn't expect that the first link would have a stripped down editor.

Correct... this is a quote from the AutoIt3 Helpfile under "Using AutoIt/Script Editors"

Script Editors

AutoIt scripts are simple text files that you can edit with any text editor. However there are many free or shareware editors that are much better for writing scripts and many feature syntax highlighting so that AutoIt keywords and functions stand out making scripting much easier and less prone to mistakes.

The current editor used by the majority of AutoIt users is SciTe, the AutoIt development team has created a custom version of SciTe with full syntax highlighting that also integrates various third-party AutoIt tools (like syntax checking and script tidying). A "lite" version of the SciTE editor comes with the AutoIt installation package. The full AutoIt version of SciTe that comes with all to tools can be downloaded seperately at http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/scite/
