Vista Speech Recognition

Recommended Posts

Does anybody have any experience using Vista's speech recognition in conjunction with autoit (or any other language for that matter)? If so can you point me to some documentation? I have seen very little documentation on accessing these controls.

Thanks

I'm not sure if speech on Vista is different to XP or not.

Search Example Scripts for Speech Speak Talk. There are a few examples like this one

I also seem to recall that someone wrote a UDF for this but I couldn't lay hands to it right away so maybe I'm wrong there.

Vista has speech recognition built in by default. XP does not.

This is not the normal sapi.voice object, but rather a whole new object.

I should have remembered that. Afraid I can't help here. It may take some research on MSDN.

Try this... At the moment, this is all theory. :) I don't have vista either. So if it doesn't work.... I tried <_<

$oMyError = ObjEvent("AutoIt.Error","MyErrFunc")

$speech = ObjCreate ("System.Speech"); It could be "System.Speech.Synthesis" not sure...
$speech.Speak ("Text To Read")

Func MyErrFunc()
  $HexNumber=hex($oMyError.number,8)
  Msgbox(0,"COM Error Test","We intercepted a COM Error !"   & @CRLF  & @CRLF & _
             "err.description is: " & @TAB & $oMyError.description   & @CRLF & _
             "err.windescription:"   & @TAB & $oMyError.windescription & @CRLF & _
             "err.number is: "   & @TAB & $HexNumber        & @CRLF & _
             "err.lastdllerror is: "   & @TAB & $oMyError.lastdllerror   & @CRLF & _
             "err.scriptline is: "   & @TAB & $oMyError.scriptline   & @CRLF & _
             "err.source is: "   & @TAB & $oMyError.source       & @CRLF & _
             "err.helpfile is: "       & @TAB & $oMyError.helpfile   & @CRLF & _
             "err.helpcontext is: " & @TAB & $oMyError.helpcontext _
            )
  SetError(1); to check for after this function returns
Endfunc

On a related note, I know that the author of the dragon adjunct, Vocola, has been spending all of his time recently migrating Vocola to use the Vista API. He says is using it full time now, but is a few months away from a public release.

I've just created a SAPIListBox UDF that will allow an AutoIT script to respond to a spoken words / phrases from a predefined list of items. Click on this link to access the UDF. It works in XP but not sure about Vista. Uses the Microsoft SAPI 5.1 SDK.

Cheers, Sean.
