Adding 3 lines to the beginning of a .txt file ?

Hey guys!

What I am trying to do here is add three lines of text to the beginning of a .txt file.

For example, I have the file original.txt:

original.txt:

this is a sentence right here.
this is a sentence right here.
this is a sentence right here.
this is a sentence right here.

and I want to add three lines to the top of it so it will look like this:

this line is number 1
this line is number 2
this line is number 3
this is a sentence right here.
this is a sentence right here.
this is a sentence right here.
this is a sentence right here.

However, I'm not quite sure if this is possible because it seems I am only allowed to write to the bottom of the .txt file :P

Hi,

Try this:

$sFile = "C:\Original.txt"
FileCopy($sFile, $sFile & ".bak") ;only for backup

$NewLines = "this line is number 1" & @CRLF & _
            "this line is number 2" & @CRLF & _
            "this line is number 3"

$ReadFile = FileRead($sFile)

$hFile = FileOpen($sFile, 2) ;Open file in Write mode (rewrite)
FileWrite($hFile, $NewLines & @CRLF & $ReadFile) ;Write to the opened file New Lines and the Old content of the file
FileClose($hFile) ;Just close the file handle

Hey Piano_Man!

Thanks for your help but autoit never works for me when I use a function with a _ in front of it.

So _FileWriteToLine is just telling me an error message that it is an unknown function name.

Sorry if I'm sounding clueless here but I'm a noob to this. I've actually been trying to do this simple task for the past 3 hours before I even posted this topic.

EDIT:

MsCreatoR, thanks man! I will give it a try right away and post back with what happens!

You need to include file.au3..

Just put this to begining of your script:

#Include <File.au3>

And you should know now that all UDFs (User Defined Function) required an include of external script (like a library).

Generally (or always I think), any function in the helpfile that has a "_" before will require some #include statement at the top.

When you search in the helpfile each function will tell you what include it needs.

Always, but with two exeptions... If you have declared the function in your script, or if you have made a function with the same name as another...

And that did the trick!! Thanks again!

When I tried it out on my own I saw the #Include <File.au3> thing in the help file but I assumed I hade to change File.au3 to the actual file that my script was named. No wonder it didn't work!

Well, many many many thanks guys!

And thanks for that fast reply and perfect solution MsCreatoR!! :P
