On my computer, HKCR\AutoIt3Script\Shell

Change the value of (Default) from "Run" to "Edit"

Generally, you can change file associations by looking for the extension under HKCR. The (default) value under the extension will be a string that you now need to find under HKCR (in this case, the (default) value of HKCR\.au3 was "AutoIt3Script").

Now once you find that string under HKCR, go down to shell. The (default) value under shell is the action it will take when double-click a file of that extension. The sub-keys under Shell are the different options available (their default values are the options that will actually be shown in the context menu of the file of that extension). Each of those options has a Command sub-key under than, whose (default) value is the actual command that will be called when that option is selected.

FYI, I DID try this on my machine before I posted this, and it works perfectly.

You can also change it in SciTe. Look under Tools/SciTe Config.

HKCR is an abbreviation for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.

Can you not find HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT?
