Getting the WPA (wireless) key from the registry

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am trying to find out how many apps such as 'Network Password Recovery Wizard' and Elmsofts 'Proactive System Password Recovery' retrieve the WPA-PSK AES encrypted key from the registry.

I know that its partly stored in 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WZCSVC\Parameters' but it seems to be encrypted against something else in the registry

Have searched MSDN and have only found http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms940173.aspx which talks about storing a key with the xml format.

I know I cant decrypt a WPA key .....well only method is bruteforcing and that takes years. But thats no what i want to do.

Thanks in advance for any help

Paul
