howto fake a DHCP request to learn the default Gateway?

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I'd like to do this for two purposes:

1.) I want to "ask" for the default gateway a DHCP server hands out. Without the need to use DHPC on my PC: Most DSL routers have DHCP enabled and hand out their own IP address for the default gateway. This would be an easy way to address the HTTP admin page in these devices to admin settings.

2.) discover bogus DHCP servers on the LAN.

My knowledge on DHCP are just what's described in Wikipedia (discover, offer, request, acknowlege). I imagine, that I would need to step through the DHCP process up to listening for the offer(s) to catch the information I'd like to collect?

Any suggestions?

Regards, Rudi.

find Dhcpcmd.exe included in the Windows 2000 RKit or

find dhcpobjs.dll (ActiveX component) incl. in the 2003 RKit.

Thanks, I'll try those. Regards, Rudi.
