Edifice
I want to make a directory with a timestamp as part of the name. I tried to copy a bit from the help-scripts, but without luck ; Convert date and time into a string $DateTime = _Date_Time_DOSDateTimeToStr(0x3621, 0x944a) ; Moves the Windows Update software files DirMove( @WindowsDir &"\SoftwareDistribution", @WindowsDir &"\SoftwareDistribution_Backup" & $DateTime, 1) Here's my includes: #Include <Date.au3> #Include <GuiStatusBar.au3> #include <GuiConstantsEx.au3>
SpookMeister
I usually stamp date/time like this. $stamp = @YEAR & @MON & @MDAY & @HOUR & @MIN & @SEC Helpful tips:If you want better answers to your questions, take the time to reproduce your issue in a small "stand alone" example script whenever possible. Also, make sure you tell us 1) what you tried, 2) what you expected to happen, and 3) what happened instead.Useful links:BrettF's update to LxP's "How to AutoIt" pdfValuater's Autoit 1-2-3 Download page for the latest versions of Autoit and SciTE
<glyph> For example - if you came in here asking "how do I use a jackhammer" we might ask "why do you need to use a jackhammer"<glyph> If the answer to the latter question is "to knock my grandmother's head off to let out the evil spirits that gave her cancer", then maybe the problem is actually unrelated to jackhammers
Authenticity
Because folders name can't have "\ / : * " ? < > |" characters. Use @MDAY & '-' & @MON & '-' & @YEAR instead
Edifice
You guys are really saving my day here! Thanks! - I got my time stamp now But, just for kicks - say I wanted to use some kind of Dim $randomdata in another filename or directory name, how do I do it? I got the point of "text" & @thingy & "text", but how to do a "text" & $randomdata & "text"?

Edifice
I was kind of aiming more at getting the actual $randomdata into my little "text" piece. It would be useful in so many other situations than filenames.

SpookMeister
Oops... I was interpreting your request as searching for those items after you had created them. To create it, do so just like your own example: $first="SomeText" $second="SomeMoreText" $string For $x = 1 to 10 $string &= Random(0, 9, 1) Next $randomdata= $string $output=$first & $randomdata & $second MsgBox(0,"Random",$output) Helpful tips:If you want better answers to your questions, take the time to reproduce your issue in a small "stand alone" example script whenever possible.
