Page faults, when detected, fire an interrupt from the hardware which causes your OS to go into it's "page fault repair" interrupt handler. That takes a few clock ticks to repair, so your system is busy with repairing the page fault and will stall other tasks for a short moment. If you're in doubt, read on interrupts a bit.
