Get Listbox text in IE

Recommended Posts

Im new to autoit, and trying to do some basic scraping of data with IE. I have a dropdown box that can be dynamic and I need to read the value and the actual text of the selected item.

$oSelectCurrentModel = _IEFormElementGetObjByName ($oForm, "ctl00$InventorySearch2$ddlModel")
MsgBox(0, "Example", $oSelectCurrentModel.value)

The above code words fine for the value of the selected item. But I cannot for the life of me get the displayed text. Any ideas how?

$oSelectCurrentModel.text oops, wrong

Please note that the .value property of a selection element is a convenience and can actually cause you trouble for multi-select's

A SELECT element has a .options collection

$oSelectCurrentModel = _IEFormElementGetObjByName ($oForm, "ctl00$InventorySearch2$ddlModel")
$oOptions = $oSelectCurrentModel.options
For $oOption in $oOptions
    ConsoleWrite($oOption.value & "|" & $oOption.text & "|" & $oOption.selected & "|" $oOption.defaultSelected & @CRLF)
Next

Doesn't work needs to be ripped out of the troubleshooting lexicon. It means that what you tried did not produce the results you expected. It begs the questions 1) what did you try?, 2) what did you expect? and 3) what happened instead?

Reproducer: a small (the smallest?) piece of stand-alone code that demonstrates your trouble
