I just thought that some of the Dev types might be interested in this article from MSDN Magazine.

Great. They are encouraging shitty organization by hiding that fact with a fancy UI.

I don't like the Libraries at all personally but sooner or later we are going to have to contend with these various changes to Windows. That's why I even post these Win 7 links, in an attempt to give you people a bit of a heads up. I think that you may get forced to dot NET sooner than you had hoped for though and that's a bugger. I've already discovered that a UI in C# is slower than my erections.

Here's how I've got my libraries set up (attached).

I've got it showing the default My Documents and also C:\LiveMesh\Docs-Work and C:\LiveMesh\Docs-Home.

My Documents -> I don't actively use it, enough programs when installed create their own bullshit structure in there that I've given up trying to keep it neat. Now it's a dumping ground for those programs.

Docs-Work -> Work related documents

Docs-Home -> Pr0n

I have the same setup on both my work laptop and home desktop. Then I've setup LiveMesh so that Docs-Home and Docs-Work synchronize. It's great, I edit a document in Docs-Work on my laptop and 10 seconds later it's replicated to Docs-Work on my desktop. If the "other" machine isn't on it syncs to the cloud until the machine comes online.

Edit: I also synchronize Favorites between machines, that's cool too. No more getting annoyed that the "must have" favorite is missing on the machines I use.

I move such directories to where I want them then create a junction to the new location at the old location. Then I set the junction to hidden + system and it vanishes from sight (I keep SuperHidden files hidden by default since I wrote a shell extension to show them on-demand).

I have to say, Jon's practical example makes sense where-as that article didn't really give a good impression of the feature.
