Cannot uncheck Updates Box

Having a tough time getting through this installation screen. I am attaching a pictue of the screen since I cannot insert it for some reason. Below is the code that I am using to try to uncheck the "Activate the updates availability notification" box. I am sending the "Tab" to get me to the checkbox and the "-" to uncheck it and then "Enter" to continue to the next screen. Wazup? By the way this is the VLC 9.9 installation.

First its VLC 0.9.9 current version is 1.0.3 also if your trying to automate installation of VLC there is silent switches you can do to install VLC without anything poping up but I do not know them off the top of my head. Anyways as far as that window to check or uncheck checkboxes you use space bar so you could try
