string concatenation

hey guys,

I have a small question which may be a silly one but plz help me out with this

how do i concatenate two strings:

like suppose i have

$text = "abc\def"

$inp = "\order"

how do i concatenate this

[whim]

$new = $text & $inp

or $text &= $inp, which is the same as $text = $text & $inp
