XKahn Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 I am working at reducing the size of several text files inside multiple folders. My program runs this function to reduce the file and my program is working fine so far but only one file at a time. There are 3 GB of text files inside 90 folders 2497 files. I just need the process to jump folder to folder picking up all the files now that the program works. $line = "MEMO" $switch = -1 While $line <> "" $line = FileReadLine($file1) if StringInStr($line, "TO: ") <> 0 Then $switch = StringRight($line, StringLen($line)-3) FileWriteLine($file2, "SUBJ: " & $pos) $line = FileReadLine($file1) FileWriteLine($file2, "DATE: " & $date) $switch = 1 EndIf if $switch < 0 Then FileWriteLine($file2, $line) endif if $switch = 1 then Select Case $pos = 2 $line = FileReadLine($file1) FileWriteLine($file2, $line) Case $pos = 3 $line = FileReadLine($file1) FileWriteLine($file2, $line) $line = FileReadLine($file1) Case $pos = 4 $line = FileReadLine($file1) FileWriteLine($file2, $line) $line = FileReadLine($file1) $line = FileReadLine($file1) EndSelect EndIf WEnd FileClose($file1) FileClose($file2) Thanks, and I am still searching through the forum for answers as well.

jchd Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Search recursive directory find and/or FileFindFirst, FileFindNext. I just glanced at your code extract and find surprising that it works with $switch assigned but just after overwriten by value 1, and also by the fact that $pos is never assigned a value. XKahn Posted February 21, 2010 Author Posted February 21, 2010 Thanks a lot guys! $switch is like a boolean (wasn't sure if I would need more tests) so as soon as the memo's header is identified and rewritten it begins removing the unneeded lines of text depending on the priming read of the file. $pos is a global variable assigned on the outside that function during the priming read. In my opinion we could really stand to loose all this crap. I mean think about it 3GB of memos. Have a better one!
