im pretty sure you can use some kind of hook to determine an underlying API event, however i've neever actually done this, sorry :)

Is there anyway to know which AutoIt function uses which windows API?

Like for example sending keystrokes using Send uses the keybd_event windows function.

There is a version of the AutoIt3source available when it was still opensource.... so you could have a look there for the functions available in that release.
